    PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 2003--

OEM agreement provides solutions that significantly improve profitability of today's mobile core networks

Santera Systems Inc., a leading provider of now- and next-generation switching solutions, today announced its partnership and non-exclusive OEM agreement with Spatial Wireless, a developer of next-generation wireless networking solutions for today's wireless networks. Under this agreement, Spatial Wireless will incorporate Santera's SanteraOne(TM) Media Gateway into its Spatial Atrium(TM) portfolio of distributed mobile switching solutions to enable mobile operators to realize immediate improvements in network efficiencies while dramatically lowering network costs.

The SanteraOne Broadband Office Exchange (BoX) Media Gateway allows carriers to realize significant ongoing capital and operating cost reductions and offer both voice and data services at affordable prices to their subscribers. Spatial Atrium is a distributed architecture call server, media gateway and element management system that supports Distributed Mobile Switching Center (DMSC) solutions as well as network overlay deployments for distributed Gateway MSC and network services solutions.

"Through this partnership, Santera is able to broaden its customer base into the wireless arena while remaining focused on our core wireline switching business," said Scott Weidenfeller, vice president of business development for Santera Systems. "Santera and Spatial Wireless have been working together for almost two years and we both share the same passion for delivering carrier grade solutions to our customers. Spatial Wireless provides the wireless industry's premier call server and element management system, and with our Media Gateway as part of the Spatial Atrium portfolio, delivers a comprehensive solution to make distributed mobile switching a reality for today's networks."

The integrated solution is a powerful multi-protocol switch capable of supporting GSM, CDMA, UMTS and GSM1x signaling interfaces and access networks. With these products deployed in existing networks, mobile service providers are assured of a smooth migration from 2G to 2.5G to 3G wireless networks. Inherent within this solution are innovations such as any-to-any TDM/IP/ATM bearer switching (including native TDM-TDM), superior density and scalability, geographic redundancy and integrated call server/media gateway operations, administration and maintenance (OA&M) to further support wireless operators' needs for performance, flexibility and reliability in their networks.

"By integrating Santera's industry leading media gateway with the Spatial Atrium portfolio, we have jointly developed a powerful distributed switch that provides mobile service providers an immediate path to profitability," said Seshu Madhavapeddy, vice president of product management and business development for Spatial Wireless. "Our long-standing relationship with Santera is based on a shared commitment to open standards and integration to provide operators the most flexible solution to meet their performance and functional requirements."
