Consumers who purchase a Dell(TM) Dimension(TM) desktop or
Inspiron(TM) notebook can now recycle their outdated computer systems
at no cost and without having to leave their home or office for a
limited time. Dell's offer is the first free home pick-up and
recycling offer from a major U.S. computer manufacturer and is
available next week to any consumer in the United States.
Attaching this no-charge recycling offer to Dell's popular
consumer computer models underscores Dell's commitment to lower the
cost of consumer computer recycling and increase the recovery rate of
used products. Dell has offered recycling at no cost for used printers
since the launch of the company's printer products in March 2003.
"Dell remains committed to making computer recycling easy and
affordable for consumers, and to increasing the number of consumers
using Dell Recycling," said Michael Rosenstein, Dell's Director of
Consumer e-Business.
Kate Krebs, executive director of the National Recycling
Coalition, said, "This is the most compelling opportunity to recycle
in the consumer-electronics industry. Dell continues to set a higher
standard for environmental stewardship."
Consumers purchasing a new Dimension or Inspiron computer will be
asked if they would like to take advantage of the Dell Recycling
program for no charge during their check-out process. Dell will
include pre-paid shipping labels and instructions in the new system's
box for those who indicate they plan to recycle a system. Consumers
simply place their old computer (any make or model) in the box in
which the new one arrived, attach the shipping label and arrange for
home pick-up by visiting www.dhl-usa.com.
Dell will continue to offer consumers a no-purchase-necessary home
pick-up recycling option for a base price of $15 per unit (current
limited time promotional cost is $5 per unit). Dell recycling programs
accept any make or model used computer equipment. For information on
Dell's Recycling programs, please visit www.dell.com/recycling.
Dell's recycling programs are one element of the company's
four-part Total Product Life Cycle approach to sound environmental
practices. They are integral to phase four, "Equipment End-of-Life
Strategies." The other phases are "Product Concept and Design,"
"Manufacturing and Operations," and "Customer Ownership Experience."
