Tektronix Communications tests growing IP traffic
EE Times

MANHASSET, NY — Tektronix Communications has expanded its test offerings for communications carriers to meet the ever increasing amount data that needs to be monitored, acquired and tested in all-Internet Protocol comms networks.

The company claims its Iris suite of network intelligence products turns traffic data into actionable business information for the carriers.

The Iris suite consists of the GeoProbe G10, a new high-speed 10GE probe; three new analyzer applications; and a common platform that provides a single, integrated framework for current and future applications.

"The sudden, rapid growth in data traffic brought on by new devices such as the iPhone has caught many operators by surprise and is forcing operators to rethink their network management strategies," said Keith Cobler, marketing manager of Network Management.

Cobler quoted a recent UMTS Forum white paper on the mobile broadband evolution, which cites that many operators today are experiencing as much as a 10 times increase in network data traffic, yet only a 10 percent increase in data revenue.

In part, the new suite tries to address that, said Cobler.

The Iris suite has a new G10 probe that improves the company's mobile Gi, Gn and datacenter monitoring offering and features a distributed architecture optimized to handle high volume IP traffic.

The Iris Analyzer toolset includes the Iris Protocol Analyzer (IPA), Iris Session Analyzer (ISA), and Iris Traffic Analyzer (ITA), which provides L2 to L7 troubleshooting by characterizing IP traffic by links, applications, and servers.

Tektronix Communications, formed separately from instruments giant Tektronix two years ago by their owner Danaher Corp., is headquartered in Richardson, Texas.
